Best Buy fails to meet holiday expectations

Some Best Buy customers who ordered gifts online over Black Friday weekend and through December are finding themselves without presents to give on Christmas.

With thousands of unhappy shoppers crying “Grinch” on bestbuy.com customer forums, it seems as if Best Buy could stand to lose many loyal customers because of their product shortfall.

“Best Buy has really wrecked my Christmas,” wrote one angry customer. “No gift and no money to buy an alternate gift.”

The electronics retailer issued an apology via emailed statement for failing to fulfill thousands of holiday orders.

“Due to overwhelming demand of hot product offerings on BestBuy.com during the November and December time period, we have encountered a situation that has affected redemption of some of our customers’ online orders,” Best Buy said in the statement. “We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and we have notified the affected customers.”

Customers flooded the forums days before Christmas asking Best Buy what to do about their barren Christmas trees.

Best Buy answered some customer complaints, stating that someone from their social media team would be responding to take care of their situation. Many times, customers came back to the site only to say that they had never heard from anyone at the company.

“Still waiting for the $370 to be ‘released’ from their hold,” fumed one customer.

“Thanks for ruining Christmas. Best Buy = Grinch,” noted another.

Some local residents found themselves to be in similar situations. Some received their gifts, albeit late. Others said they were notified of order cancellations.

Facebook commenter Lisa Newton Ellis said a gift ordered during Black Friday never made it to her house.

“We ordered the Black Friday Wi-Fi printer and never received it,” Ellis wrote. “Best Buy just now told us in an email we would not be getting it. It was a gift for my parents.”

Others were luckier. Though almost too late, Brandie Green received her eight disc Harry Potter movie collection last week.

“It’s a gift for myself, so no biggie,” she wrote.

Attempts to ask Best Buy whether they would be offering refunds or gift cards to customers were met with a “no comment” from customer service representatives.

Customer service also did not say whether customers would ever receive their purchases.
